Every Day We Fight: use keys at Thorn Stash loot rifts

PC · source-bounded Codex reference · Sources checked 2026-11-02

The short answer

Complete optional combat objectives to earn the keys needed for Rare and Epic Thorn Stash rifts. At the stash, inspect the rift's tier and key requirement before selecting it. Its contents are random choices from discovered items, so a higher tier does not identify one guaranteed gun.

A Thorn Stash is a resupply opportunity. A Rifter Stash is a vulnerable enemy container defended during combat. The key check below concerns the Thorn Stash's tiered loot rifts.

Earn the key without confusing the objective

  1. Read the optional objective during a combat encounter and decide whether the squad can complete it while surviving the fight.
  2. Complete the stated objective and check its actual reward feedback for the key.
  3. At a Thorn Stash, compare the Common, Rare and Epic rifts rather than trying every rift as though it were free.
  4. Use an eligible key for the desired tier when the game offers the interaction.
  5. Inspect the resulting selection and choose supplies or a compatible upgrade for the next task.

Treat reward quality as a chance

The exploration reference says keys earned at higher Heat improve the chance of better Thorn Stash rewards. It does not provide a universal percentage, key exchange rate or farming threshold. Raise Heat only when the squad can manage the resulting encounters.

No exact map location or fixed key quantity is asserted here. Use the current rift's displayed requirement rather than a number inferred from its color.

If it does not work

  • No key is available: check the completed optional objective's actual reward, not just whether all enemies died.
  • The rift is a different tier than expected: read its requirement before spending.
  • Better-tier loot is not the specific item you wanted: discovery and randomness are separate from rarity.
  • A damaged Rifter Stash cannot be repaired by this key process.

How to tell it worked

The intended Thorn Stash rift accepts the eligible key and offers its loot selection. The chosen reward fits the next loadout or supply need.
