Every Day We Fight: choose a save mode before committing to a run

Steam / Windows PC · 1.0 / 0.9 source scope · Sources checked 2026-11-02

The short answer

For saving freedom, use normal play. For a more roguelite run where death resets some progress, choose Iron Man when starting a new game.

Old launch-era advice that the game relies only on checkpoints is out of date. Manual and in-combat saving are part of the official 1.0 feature set.

Match the mode to your goal

Your goalWhat the official information supports
Save and return to a playthroughNormal play supports multiple saves, manual saves and combat saving.
Make losses part of the runIron Man is an optional new-game choice with more roguelite progress resets.

Check before a long session

  1. Review the mode while setting up the new game.
  2. For normal play, open the game's Save/Load menu and verify that your intended save exists before relying on it.
  3. Use the displayed current/max slot indicator to understand the slots in your own game.
  4. When returning, select the intended playthrough and save rather than assuming a single universal checkpoint.

What is not established here

The public announcements establish the choice and saving features; they do not provide a current click-by-click save-menu walkthrough, a universal slot limit, or every Iron Man reset detail. This page answers the mode choice rather than promising to repair an incompatible or corrupt save.

If it does not work

  • A checkpoint-only statement from the original Early Access launch is not a current 1.0 limitation.
  • A save that will not load is a separate troubleshooting case; do not delete it to change the mode.
  • Do not assume a normal-mode manual save can undo every Iron Man consequence.

How to tell it worked

The chosen new-game mode matches the saving experience you intended. For a save you plan to resume, confirm its entry in Save/Load.
