Every Day We Fight: check status effects when an action is blocked

PC · source-bounded Codex reference · Sources checked 2026-11-02

The short answer

Match the affected action to the current status: Paralyzed Arms blocks attacks, Paralyzed Legs blocks movement, and Encrusted or Knocked Out can prevent actions. Suppressed raises shooting cost rather than being the same condition. Check the duration or the appropriate healing/cleansing route before relying on the next action.

An unavailable action can come from a status effect even when the Thorn still has AP. Read the actual icon and remaining duration before changing controls or ending the whole squad's turn.

Check availability, duration and recovery

  1. Select the affected Thorn and read the status icon/name plus any turn-count number.
  2. Check the current action cost and available AP separately; an empty AP pool and a disabled action are different problems.
  3. If the effect has a combat duration, plan what the rest of the squad can achieve while it expires.
  4. If healing is the relevant recovery route, use available supplies and confirm the resulting status rather than assuming any amount of healing clears every effect.
  5. If Leo has the purchased Cleansing Effect upgrade for Donate, compare that targeted status-removal option; its benefit is not a default of every donation or a revival for a downed Thorn.
  6. After recovery, recheck the blocked action and its AP cost before committing the turn.

Find the source if the status returns

Special fire modes, hazardous surfaces and abilities can apply statuses. If the same problem returns immediately, inspect what the Thorn is standing in or being hit by rather than treating each recurrence as a new control failure.

This is a practical routing guide, not a complete status database. It does not promise one universal cleansing item, fixed duration or immunity that every build shares.

If it does not work

  • The action remains unavailable after the icon clears: recheck AP, ammunition, cooldown and whether the action has a valid target.
  • The Thorn is downed: use the revival guide rather than treating a temporary status as the entire problem.
  • The effect returns: check the surface, incoming fire mode or ability that reapplied it.
  • A skill's support benefit excludes downed allies: do not substitute it for an item-based revival.

How to tell it worked

The exact blocking or cost-changing status is identified and the action becomes usable after the appropriate recovery or duration, with its actual cost checked again.
