Every Day We Fight: use a secondary weapon rather than a second primary
Rattler and Longhaul cannot be equipped together on one Thorn, according to the developer's weapon-slot replies. They are primary choices. The released 1.0 update adds Stumper as a shotgun sidearm and Riptide as a full-auto pistol sidearm.
Selecting the pistol first does not turn a primary weapon pickup into a secondary-slot weapon.

Choose a valid combination
- Decide which primary role you want to keep: for example, the Longhaul's long-range role or the Rattler's shotgun role.
- Check whether the other weapon is actually a secondary.
- If you want a shotgun alongside a primary, look for the Stumper sidearm rather than trying to place the Rattler in the pistol slot.
- Equip an eligible secondary, then verify that your chosen primary remains equipped.
Why your shotgun was dropped
The reported behavior was a primary pickup replacing the existing primary even when the player had switched to their pistol. The developer explained that weapons belong to primary or secondary classes, rather than being assigned solely by the currently selected slot.
If it does not work
- A primary disappears on pickup: check the new weapon's class.
- A new 1.0 weapon is not in your starting selection: this guide does not claim every weapon is immediately discovered or guaranteed to spawn.
- Trading existing weapons between Thorns is a separate question; an old workaround is not asserted as the current only method.
How to tell it worked
The intended primary remains equipped alongside an eligible secondary.
