Every Day We Fight: open difficulty setup when pre-game Settings is greyed out
Choose New Game to open the difficulty menu before starting the run. In the developer-answered June case, the player confirmed they had tried changing difficulty before starting a game, and this resolved that state.
This answer covers the documented state where no active game is loaded and difficulty options in Settings are disabled.
On this page
Use the run setup entry
- Return to the main menu without deleting any saves.
- Choose New Game.
- Use the difficulty menu that appears before the new run starts.
- Check the selected options before committing to the run.
Separate menu state from damaged saves
The original poster saw an incompatible-save message after deleting old saves, but the successful answer was to open the new-game setup. That is not evidence that deleting saves is necessary, or that this repairs an existing corrupt save. Customizable difficulty remains an announced 1.0 feature.
If it does not work
- Still disabled inside New Game: this is outside the specific resolved case; record the message and build.
- Existing save fails to load: keep it separate from this pre-game difficulty issue.
- Do not delete progress as the first step for a disabled menu.
How to tell it worked
The new-game difficulty controls are available and show your selected setup.
