Every Day We Fight combat decisions
Every Day We Fight: choose Overwatch with its Reflex cost in mind
Placing an Overwatch cone spends AP and a Reflex up front. Once that Reflex is gone, you cannot also use Scramble. When an eligible enemy moves inside the cone, enter Aim View and fire yourself.
Overwatch is a manual reaction opportunity, and placing it uses the same Reflex resource needed by other reactions.
On this page
Place and use the cone
- Check the active Thorn's Reflex availability, AP and weapon ammunition.
- Select Overwatch from the action bar and choose the area you want to watch.
- Commit only if using this reaction is worth giving up another Reflex opportunity.
- When an eligible Rifter crosses the cone, use the triggered Aim View to take the shot.
Cancelling a reaction is still a choice
The reference says a triggered Scramble spends its Reflex even if you cancel without moving. Do not treat cancellation as saving that same reaction for later in the turn. The 1.0 notes also allow weapon and fire-mode switching during Kill Assist and Covering Fire; those are separate reaction types.
Keep only a bounded AP reserve
The general game-text reference says up to five unspent AP carry into the next turn. If you are ending early to prepare the next turn, do not assume every unused point will be banked. Movement, firing, reloading and holding breath each draw from AP.
If it does not work
- Scramble unavailable after cone placement: that follows the up-front Reflex cost.
- No shot: confirm Overwatch was placed successfully, then check whether the enemy crossed the cone, ammunition remained and the firing line was clear. A normally prepaid Reflex is not an extra token you must spend again.
- The cone size and number of shots depend on the equipped weapon; this page does not promise one universal shot count.
How to tell it worked
An eligible movement triggers the manual firing opportunity; you aim and shoot during it.
